How to choose a crib

A joyful and at the same time responsible event is approaching - the birth of a child. It is important to carefully prepare for this moment and think through all the details of the baby's life. And, as you know, one of the main items is a crib. That is why it is worth deciding in advance on a comfortable and safe baby crib.

Going to the children's furniture store for a crib, you should not rely only on its appearance and price. Think in advance exactly where you will put the bed in the apartment, as this will help you determine the size of the future purchase. Children's beds measuring 120 cm long and 60 cm wide are considered standard. Such dimensions of the crib will allow you to use it up to 3 years.

The variety of cribs is impressive, the main thing in this situation is to orient correctly and quickly, and for this you should know a few important points.

1. Naturalness of materials first of all. It is preferable to opt for natural wood, but small amounts of plastic or wood-based panels are also acceptable.

In any case, all components from which children's beds are made must be non-toxic. It is better to pay attention to unpainted, but simply polished children's beds , but in any case, the varnishes and paints that cover the wooden structure must be harmless (only water-based), and also comply with safety requirements for the baby's health.

Feel free to ask for a hygiene certificate stating what the furniture is made of and how “harmless” it is.

2. Corners and other details of the crib should be smooth, rounded.

3. Models of cribs are equipped with wheels or runners for motion sickness, and can also be on ordinary legs. Some models may combine these elements. Rocking beds are convenient for rocking a baby in the first months of his life, but soon you will have to fix the crib in a stable position.

4. The baby's bed can be adjusted in height, and this is very convenient, because in the first months of life, parents will be able to take and put him in the crib without undue stress on his back.

In the future, for the safety of the child, the bottom should be lowered. The child will not fall out of the crib if the height from the mattress to the side is at least 60-65 cm. Mostly there are cribs with three levels of the bottom.

5. For the manufacture of crib sides, slats are usually used. The main thing is that the distance between them is 5-6 cm, as this will not allow the child to fall out or get stuck between them.

6. When the child grows up a little, you will appreciate the ability to lower the side or take it off. The baby will be able to independently climb into the crib and get back out. In such cribs, it is important to check that the side panel is well fixed so that the child cannot open it.

7. A plus may be the presence of a box and other containers for linen and toys. This will save space and allow you to keep the things the child needs at hand.

8. Some baby beds are equipped with silicone or plastic teething pads. They not only protect the baby's gums, but also the crib itself from marks.

9. The canopy does not affect the safety of the child in any way, however, it creates a cozy atmosphere in a small crib. Of course, this accessory can be bought separately or made by hand. There is also a completely opposite opinion about the benefits of a canopy. Many mothers and fathers refuse it, because it, in addition to protection, reduces air circulation in the crib.

In any case, it's up to you. Remember that your task is to choose a cozy and safe crib in which the baby can spend time, play and relax. The price of a baby crib is a matter of possibilities, and everything else, shape, color and size is a matter of taste!
