If in the coming days you are planning to go to the ultrasound room and directly ultrasound scan of the abdominal organs (hereinafter referred to as OBP and ultrasound of OBP), you need to prepare your body for examination 3 days before the visit to the doctor.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that air in the bowel loops and food shield the organs from the passage of ultrasound, and contraction of the gallbladder on food can lead to errors in the detection of stones and other formations.
So, what is included in the preparation for an abdominal ultrasound
1) Diet, the main goal of which is to reduce the formation of gases in the intestines.
Eliminate foods that cause flatulence from your diet.
#beans, peas, beans,
#leavened bread, buns, biscuits and sweets,
#raw and fruit vegetables,
#whole milk and dairy products from it (ice cream, condensed and powdered milk, cream).
# strong coffee and juices, carbonated drinks.
“What can you eat?” You ask. There is a list of allowed products: cereal cereals (buckwheat, oats on the water, barley, flaxseed), lean meat (turkey, rabbit, beef) and fish; they need to be steamed, boiled or baked in the oven.
Doctors recommend eating fractionally, i.e. 5-6 times a day every 3-4 hours.
2) Stop smoking and alcohol.
Even 1 cigarette can cause stomach cramps, leading to erroneous results and misdiagnosis.
3) Consumption of a large amount of liquid.
It can be water, weak tea; You need to drink at least 1.5-2 liters of water per day.
4) Taking medications if necessary.
If you are prone to increased flatulence, it is recommended to take enterosorbents - drugs that reduce gas formation, for example, Simethicone. Generics of simethicone - Disflatil, Meteospasmil, Espumizan, Smecta, Enterosgel (the dose can be deducted from the instructions, almost all of these drugs contain “ultrasound preparation” among the indications for use).
From the instructions of Disfatil:
To prepare patients for diagnostic procedures, as a rule, 50 drops of Disflatil are prescribed 3-4 times a day for 2 days before the planned study. On the day of the study, take 50 drops of Disflatil in the morning on an empty stomach and 50 drops of Disflatil immediately before diagnostic procedures.
The use of activated charcoal according to the scheme “3-4 tablets 3 times a day in the intervals between meals and at bedtime the day before” is now considered an outdated method.
You can also take enzymes that will improve digestion: festal or mezim 3 times a day, 1 tab. after meal. But these medicines should be taken as prescribed by a doctor.
If you are prone to constipation , then the day before the sonographic examination, take a herbal laxative inside (Senade tablets) or use Bisacodyl rectal suppositories. If the laxative was ineffective, it is recommended to put a cleansing enema on the eve of the study.
Directly on the day of the ultrasound
Examination of the abdominal organs is performed on an empty stomach (the last time you should eat no later than 6-8 hours before the procedure).
If ultrasound of the OBP is scheduled for the morning hours, then the last meal is in the evening the day before. UBP ultrasonography after 3 p.m. is also acceptable. In this case, you can have breakfast at 8-11 am.
Patients with diabetes can have a light breakfast, for example, you can drink warm tea with toast.
With children in this regard, it is more difficult, in any case, it is recommended to skip one feeding or at least not feed for about 4 hours (for infants, this threshold is reduced to 2 hours).
Before an ultrasound of the abdominal cavity, it is not recommended to chew gum, suck on lollipops, take antispasmodics and any other medications. If you cannot cancel treatment due to ultrasound, be sure to notify the diagnostician about the medications you are taking.
It is not recommended to perform an abdominal ultrasound immediately after other studies of the gastrointestinal tract, for example, irrigoscopy, gastrography, FGDS, colonoscopy. If such studies were carried out, it is necessary to notify the doctor about them.
It is advisable to bring the results of previous sonographic studies to the ultrasound. The doctor will be able to assess the dynamics of changes.
