Questions to the psychologist: Mistakes in choosing a profession

Question for a psychologist:

Good day! I've spent at the same time an unacceptable situation. Meni 30 years. Narazі me zdaєtsya, scho I had mercy when choosing a profession. I work in the field of banking, the protection of the robot is not for me. I can’t convey why I myself feel this way, but I don’t keep my future in my sphere. And it’s even scarier to change a profession, I can’t show that I’m changing the stained glass window of my fate for training. What is the purpose of sіm'yu at the hour of learning? І how can I not again have mercy on the choice of a straight robot? Help, be kind. Victor.

Psychologist's answer:

Hello Victor!

Of course, I understand “ready mov”, but still I will allow myself to answer in Russian, because I think in Russian.

In psychology, the state you are in today is called “emotional burnout”. Usually it is just accompanied by depression, unwillingness to go to a boring job, irritation from everything connected with a hated job, etc. and so on. After all, it is not in vain that there is an opinion that a person’s job needs to be changed at least once every 3-5 years, because in the same place there is a “stuck” and, in a sense, degradation. Here you need to first understand what exactly caused your condition. Whether it is dissatisfaction in the material side, in other words, in salary, or a problem in the team, or really disgust for the field of activity in which you work. Be honest with yourself and try to determine as accurately as possible what exactly is the cause of your condition. How you answer this question will determine your resolution of the situation.

It often happens that dissatisfaction with money or an unfavorable working environment, in fact, betrays precisely an aversion to all work in general. And you don’t need to chop off your shoulder, especially since you are no longer a boy, when you can work according to the principle of like or dislike, and having a family imposes on you certain obligations and responsibilities to it. As such, there are many options to consider.

A person who once decided to change his job will change it anyway, it's only a matter of time. So if you internally decided to change jobs for yourself, then change, but maybe you shouldn’t break everything so drastically? You can simply change your job without changing the field of activity in which you have already achieved some success. Or change your profile, but as close as possible to what you are doing today, which will allow you to save time on training, which in turn, if it affects your income at first, is not very noticeable.

But if, after all your reflections, you come to a balanced decision that your soul is not at all disposed towards banking, then you need to clearly determine in which direction your efforts are directed. You ask me how not to make a mistake with the choice of profession again, but here I am not your assistant. You and only you can determine what is best for you. What is more important for you in work: salary or pleasure received from work? Of course, it's great when these two components coincide, but this is not always the case, and you should understand this. If you have not yet decided where you want to go, maybe you should not break the stability that exists today? If you have already decided on the profile of your future activities, then before you plunge into the pool with your head, weigh such factors as what you will most likely start from the bottom, it will take a certain time before you feel "in at ease” and this will also affect the salary, although it’s not a fact.

In the end, you don't have to force yourself. And if you absolutely can’t be there for a second, then change jobs. Only I urge you to a reasonable and balanced decision. Talk to your family. Does she know what's going on with you? Or do you not say anything to them, so as not to upset, because you feel your responsibility for them? Maybe together you will come to the most favorable solution for all of you. The main thing is that if the decision is made, do not doubt it for a second, regardless of the possible obstacles on your new professional road, because if you are ready for them, then, accordingly, it will be easier to endure.

Believe in yourself and be yourself!

Good luck!
