Criteria for choosing a car seat for a child

Every parent-driver is faced with the problem of a safe and comfortable stay of a small passenger in a car. After all, often due to various circumstances, you have to take your child with you, whether it is a visit to a clinic, a trip to a store or just a trip.

Today, many fathers and mothers consider buying a car seat for their child extremely necessary.

What are the main criteria for choosing a car seat and the nuances that you should focus on?

Perhaps the most important thing for every parent is to ensure the safety of the baby.

Fastening systems. The ISOFIX system, where the seats are attached to the car seat with latches, is considered the most reliable system for attaching child car seats, but this device is only designed for children weighing up to 18 kilograms and is not suitable for all cars. If the design of your car involves the installation of seats with the ISOFIX system, pay attention to these models.

It is important to match the age, height and weight of the child to the chair chosen for him. There are five groups of seats in total.

Group "0" is represented by infant carriers, which are designed for children weighing up to 10 kg and under the age of one year. In the infant carrier, the baby is only lying down, sideways or backwards in the direction of the car, his safety is ensured by a wide waist belt. The head of the child is protected by a soft insert that protects it from shaking.

Group "0+" - these are seats for babies up to 1.5 years old and weighing up to 13 kg, which are fixed against the movement of the vehicle in the back or front seat (with the possibility of deactivating the airbag) and look like a carrier.

Group "0+ / 1" - for children weighing from 9 to 18 kilograms and aged from 1 to 4.5 years. These car seats consist of a plastic frame and a reinforced base, they are also equipped with internal straps to secure the child during the trip.

Group "2/3" - for children weighing from 15 to 25 kilograms and aged from 3 to 7 years. For child seats in this group, a gradual transition from the use of car seat belts to car belts is provided.

Group "3" - for children weighing from 22 to 36 kilograms and aged from 6 to 12 years or up to a height of 150 cm. This group includes padded seats, called boosters, where the child is already fastened with car belts. For schoolchildren, we recommend choosing transformer models that, through simple manipulations, turn into boosters, for example, the KIWY S123 Moka, KIWY S23 Carbon, BELLELLI Giotto Plus models.

When choosing a car seat, the manufacturer . There is no friend for the taste and color, but for all these companies there is one important condition: any car seat you choose must be labeled ECE R44 / 03 or R44 / 04. This means that this car seat has passed a series of crash tests in Europe (at the moment, only car seats from European manufacturers meet all safety conditions and have successfully passed the tests). We recommend choosing car seats from trusted manufacturers - CHICCO, KINDERKRAFT, BELLELLI, etc.

When you go to the store, take into account another criterion when choosing a car seat - this is the comfort of your baby . Therefore, if it is of course possible, take the future passenger with you and try on the model that you have chosen, because if the child is uncomfortable in the seat, the baby will become naughty, perhaps even try to get out of it, which is naturally dangerous for the child himself, and besides - will distract your attention from driving.

Now it is worth considering the nuances that should not be ignored when buying.

When choosing a car seat, it is important to take into account various factors, such as the time the baby spends in the car.

If you are only counting on short trips with a baby, choose chairs of group “0+”. If you are going on long trips with a child under the age of six months, it is better for you to purchase a group “0” seat.

When choosing a seat for an older child, remember that children often sleep while riding. Please note that the chair has an adjustable backrest.

The car seats have internal seat belts. Check the buckle carefully - it must be strong and designed so that the child cannot open it himself. To ensure proper safety for the child, the car seat must be equipped with a Y-shaped or five-point harness. The straps should be wide and covered with special soft pads along the entire length.

Treat the purchase of a chair for your dear little man with all responsibility and care.
