August crept unnoticed to our doorstep, bringing with him a basket of ripe fruit. A place of honor among them is rightfully occupied by a favorite of children and adults, juicy, ripe, sugary - of course everyone guessed that it was a watermelon.
The city was flooded with sellers of this sweet berry, yes, I think everyone knows that a watermelon is a berry, and I didn’t have a chance to discover America a second time, although it’s a pity. So, in many places of our city, outlets have appeared where you can, after a little bargaining with the seller, buy a sweet watermelon.
I don’t know about anyone else, but a watermelon brings back memories of my childhood, when there was nothing better than taking a huge piece of watermelon, as they say, from ear to ear and enjoying its absorption, smearing in sweet juice and enjoying that unforgettable, sweet taste.
Of course, you can’t turn back time, but nothing prevents you from choosing and buying a watermelon and enjoying it.
This is where the first question arises - how to choose the right watermelon? Personally, I heard a lot of advice, sometimes very strange. Here are the most common and well-known ways to determine the ripeness of a watermelon. By choosing an unripe watermelon, you can not only spoil the food, but also get an intestinal upset. Therefore, chop on the nose signs of watermelon "fullness".
How to choose a watermelon - ripe and juicy
1. Choose watermelons with a dry tail . Watermelons with a juicy, ribbed tail may be unripe.
2. They say that a ripe watermelon rings when you pat it with your palm. In fact, the sound depends on whether the pulp has softened inside or not. A green fruit will ring, and a ripe watermelon will sound muffled. It is better to check the watermelon for ripeness by the characteristic cod that the watermelon makes when squeezed with your hands . You can safely buy such a product.
3. The earth spot on the bottom side should be yellow , not white.
4. Ripe watermelon can be easily scratched. By running your fingernail over it, you can easily remove the top layer of the peel from it. On a young watermelon, the nail will slide like on glass.
5. If your "chosen one" has passed five tests, ask the seller to cut out a triangle. See if the inside of the watermelon is pale (if so, this is a sign of immaturity), if it has yellow veins (this is a sign of excessive amounts of chemicals). Ripe should be red, seeds should be black, and the transition from white peel to red flesh should be pronounced, sharp.
6. The taste of the triangle should be sweet.
Although I usually do not require cutting a watermelon, so as not to violate its integrity and bring it normally to the house.
So the watermelon is selected, the bargaining with the seller is made, and you become the owner of a ripe juicy watermelon. We direct our feet away from the side of the house in order to quickly enjoy the sweet taste. Personally, I think watermelon tastes best when it's cold, so put the watermelon in the fridge before drinking it, although you can just take a cold bath and put the watermelon in the water.
While the watermelon was taking a cold bath, I decided to expand my knowledge about it a little and, turning on the computer, turned to the worldwide network with a simple request - “Watermelon”. There was a lot of information, even a lot, and listing everything would be quite long.
Therefore, I will give the most scientific definition:
Watermelon is a melon culture of the gourd family with a fruit that is a false berry. The edible part of it contains 89.5% water, 0.7% protein, 8.7% monosaccharides and disaccharides, 0.5% dietary fiber. From macro and microelements, it is relatively rich in magnesium (224 mg%), potassium and iron (64 and 1 mg%). There are vitamins in watermelon, but they are few. First of all, watermelon has a dehydrating effect, that is, it helps the body get rid of excess fluid.
After reading a few more articles on watermelon, I made a very pleasant conclusion about the usefulness of this berry, which in fact was not new for me, but it was not superfluous to confirm my thoughts.
watermelon diet
If someone wants to lose a couple of extra pounds, I can give an example of a watermelon diet. No need to grin skeptically, this does not mean at all that you have to eat only watermelons, the diet is extremely simple and effective.
The secret of the diet lies in the peculiarities of watermelon - its pulp is low in calories (about 38 calories per 100 g) and can be consumed in large quantities to simulate satiety. You can sit on a purely watermelon diet for a maximum of 2 days (if longer, immunity will “fall” from a lack of protein). It is correct to “diet” like this: in the morning you eat something protein (meat, fish), hold on until 15-16 hours and eat your fill with watermelon. In the evening - something light - porridge or a fermented milk product. You can’t eat meat after watermelon: it will not be digested.
As you can see - a very simple way to lose a few extra pounds.
Well, the watermelon has already cooled enough and it's time to start eating.
Particular attention should be paid to the fact that it is imperative to wash the watermelon in hot water before cutting, the “chemistry” that settles on its peel, when cut with a knife, can get on the pulp that we eat. Therefore, washing watermelon outside with hot water is the main rule of “anti-melon” safety.
When all the subtleties are observed, you can forget about business and just enjoy a bright red, ripe, juicy, sugar watermelon.
Which is what I'm going to do now.
